Best Medication For ADHD

Non-stimulant ADHD medications take a little longer to kick in, but can make you feel more in control and improve your concentration, impulsivity and focus. These medications don't affect dopamine or norepinephrine the same way stimulants do. They are therefore able to be used for a longer time. They also have less side effects such as constipation, heartburn, and decreased sexual drive. Strattera is the first medication that was approved by the FDA to treat ADHD. There are also non-stimulant antidepressants that are available off-label to treat ADHD. These antidepressants with tricyclic chemistry, such as Tofranil(imipramine), are used to treat ADHD. Your doctor may also prescribe atomoxetine (Prozac) or viloxazine (Risperdal). These drugs do not have a direct effect however they can reduce impulsivity and improve concentration over time. They're in a different drug class from the other choices and can trigger certain side effects like shaky hands or headache.
